SACEMA researcher, Roxanne Beauclair, presented the beginnings of her PhD work on age-mixing patterns and HIV transmission. Specifically, she described the methods she will be using for her first paper that validates ages from the Likoma Network Study (LNS)-one of the populations that will feature in her PhD analyses. Having valid ages is a prerequisite for calculating age differences between sexual partners and ultimately determining their affect on HIV transmission/acquisition. There is reason to suspect that the ages obtained in the LNS are biased. Roxanne will be using a well-kept birth registry that was maintained by the Anglican Church on Likoma Island to validate the ages obtained in LNS.
